Zimbabwe is a landlocked country in southern Africa known for its dramatic landscape and diverse wildlife, much of it within parks, reserves and safari areas.

Our trip gives you the opportunity to enjoy an unforgettable and fascinating adventure.

You will witness the magnigicent Mosi Oa Tunya – “the smoke that thunders”. Known as one of the natural Seven Wonders in the World – the Victoria Falls is 1.7km wide and 108 metres drop into the chasm below. Amazing rainbows can be seen at certain times of the day and if you time your trip to Victoria Falls over the full moon, you can see the Lunar rainbow, something not to be missed.

You will then explore Hwange National Park -the largest natural reserve in Zimbabwe. Its grasslands and mopane woods are home to large elephant herds, lions and African wild dogs.

DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival Zimbabwe- Victoria Falls International airport

On arrival into Victoria Fall’s new airport, you will be met and transferred to the Cresta Sprayview Hotel.

Victoria Falls is recognized as one of the seven natural wonders of the world. The rain forest surrounding the falls is a unique ecosystem that is endemic to the Falls. The birdlife is also unique to this area and includes some “specials” such as the African Finfoot and the Schalow’s Turaco. While it is neither the highest nor the widest waterfall in the world, it is classified as the largest, based on its width of 1,708 metres (5,604 ft) and height of 108 metres (354 ft) resulting in the world’s largest sheet of falling water. Victoria Falls is roughly twice the height of North America’s Niagara Falls and well over twice the width of its Horseshoe Falls. In height and width Victoria Falls is rivaled only by Argentina and Brazil’s Iguazu Falls.

You will spend 2 nights at Sprayview Hotel ( Double occupancy, BB) or similar

Day 2: Victoria Falls tour ( B, L)

Victoria Falls Town offers no shortage of interesting and exciting activities to make any visit to this spectacular destination worthwhile.  Today we have reserved a Tour of the Falls led by a guide who will give you detailed information about the Falls ,its history and geology. This tour is then followed by Lunch at the Lookout Café, perched on the edge of Zambezi River Gorge.  Drinks are to your own account.

Optional activities: ( extra cost applies)

  • Sunset cruise
  • Helicopter flight

Day 3 to Day 6: Hwange National Park (B, L , D)

Today you will be transferred by road from your hotel to Ivory Lodge –  a camp located just outside the famous Hwange National Park.

Hwange National Park is situated in the north western corner of Zimbabwe, adjoining Botswana’s Chobe ecosystem. It is Zimbabwe’s biggest and oldest park, roughly the size of Belgium. The habitat is mainly teak and mopane forest interspersed with open plains and ancient river systems. This park boasts one of the greatest diversity of mammal species in the world, with well over 108 mammals including “specials: such as roan and sable antelope. Species include 19 large herbivores and eight large carnivores. Over 400 species of birds have been recorded in Hwange including around 50 different types of raptor. It is home to one of the largest elephant populations in Africa. This park is a must on any itinerary!

Spend 4 nights at Ivory Lodge ( fully  inclusive basis in a standard tree house, Double occupancy)

Ivory Lodge accommodation:

Deep in the mystical teak forests of Hwange is this unobtrusive camp of Ivory Lodge. Ivory is a  small intimate lodge featuring 7 luxurious tree houses and 2 Presidential Elephant Suites set on elevated platforms amongst the indigenous flora of Hwange Game Park. The elevated en suite rooms are positioned with sweeping views of the waterhole that is floodlit by night. Our electric blankets will keep you warm and snug during the cooler winter nights and in summer keep cool under the ceiling fans. All our tree-houses have mosquito nets, 24 hour electricity and hot water. Our two brand new Presidential Elephant Suites set on the left of the camp have excellent views of the pan as well.

The newly thatched central dining area, bar and library are set around the deep blue pool – a welcome haven from the scorching mid-day heat. Our safari chefs are experienced in bush cuisine and we also cater for a variety of dietary requirements.  The best is having a fireside dinner under a massive blanket of stars or a private candle lit dinner within the hide itself.

The hide out next to the waterhole is a refuge where a heightened wildlife experience is within a stones throw away. You don’t require a large tele-photo lens to get some incredible close-ups of the big 5 that frequent the pan.

Activities on offer during your 4 night stay:

Game drives –either in the Game Park or on our 6 000 acre concession

Foot safaris –with our resident guides, with attending National Park Scouts

Night drives – at twilight around our concession with spotting torch.

Viewing blind – you will see a tapestry of wildlife at very close range drinking at the pan, you won’t need a telephoto-lens.
