ITINERARY

Day 01: Arrival Lima

Airport to Hotel estimated driving time: forty-five minutes

Once your flight lands at Jorge Chavez International airport, follow the signs to immigration and then to customs. After exiting customs, you will be in the International arrivals area, where your driver will meet and greet you, he will be holding a sign with Rahhalah logo, and drive you to your hotel located in Miraflores area.

Upon arrival at your hotel, our Staff will welcome you and assist you with all you may need.

Day 02: Private Lima Experience (B)

Hotel pick-up time: 09:00 am.
Estimated touring time: three and half hours

This morning, you are picked up from your hotel and start your adventure in Lima city. Your day starts with a visit to a local Market, where you will learn about Peruvian fruits, potatoes, vegetables, fish and other ingredients used in the local Cuisine.

After a short experience with Peruvian Gastronomy, you will be driven the city of the Kings and explore the beautiful monuments, Colonial houses adorned with Moorish-style balconies, their main Plazas like San Martin and Plaza de Armas, a view of the baroque cathedral, the Governors Palace, the Archbishop’s Palace with its big carved wooden balconies, and a guided visit inside the convent of San Francisco which is home to the largest collection of religious art in the Americas. Underneath the convent lie extensive catacombs that served as the cemetery during the colonial period.

Your tour includes a visit to the beautiful olive tree park and “Park of Love” where you will have a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean! After your Lima tour, your guide can recommend you a nice Restaurant to have lunch overlooking the Pacific Ocean!

This afternoon, you just can rest or explore Miraflores’s parks at your leisure

Day 03: Flight from Lima to Puerto Maldonado. Posada Amazonas (B,L,D)

Estimated Flight time: two hours and forty-five minutes

After breakfast, you will be driven to Lima airport to board your flight to Puerto Maldonado

Upon arrival at Puerto Maldonado airport, you are met by our representative, who will be holding a sign with your name, and driven to Rainforest Expeditions office, where you will register, enjoy a refreshing fruit drink and leave your excess luggage in the office storage, until your return to the airport to board your flight to Cusco. Then you will be driven to Tambopata River port, located 20 kilometers (12 miles) from Puerto Maldonado, in the native community of El Infierno. From here you travel by boat through Tambopata River for almost 1 hour upstream to Posada Amazonas Lodge.

Upon arrival at Posada Amazonas, the lodge staff will welcome you and provide you with an introductory briefing and security tips.

Canopy Tower  This afternoon you will have a 20-minute walk to an observation tower and have the chance to enjoy amazing views of the Amazon treetops, Tambopata River, monkeys, flocks of parrots flying and even a few macaws and toucans!

In the evening, you can attend a lecture about ecotourism given by a Posada Amazonas Staff.

Day 04: Oxbow Lake - Canopy Tower - Ethnobotanical Tour (B, L, D)

This morning we set off on a thirty-minute boat ride and then have a walk for almost forty-five minutes to Tres Chimbadas Oxbow Lake into Tambopata National Reserve. You will enjoy a great day on board a catamaran searching for the Giant River Otters, Caimans, Hoatzin, horned screamers and birds.

Your morning continues with a birdwatching activity, a twenty-minute walk from Posada Amazonas will lead you to a Parrot Clay Lick; from a blind located only twenty meters from the Clay Lick, you will observe parrots and parakeets eating the clay on a river bank, however there is a chance to see other birds like Mealy and Yellow- headed Amazon, Blue-headed Parrot and Dusky Headed-Parakeet.

After lunch, you will embark on a twenty-minute boat ride down river to Ñape Center, a communal organization that uses rainforest plants for healing many diseases. You will visit the community garden of medicinal plants and learn about the different treatments for diseases like cancer.

In the evening, you may have a hike in the forest to look for frogs and some mammals.

Day 05: Posada Amazonas - Puerto Maldonado. Flight from Puerto Maldonado to Cusco (B, L, D)

Estimated flight time: fifty-five minutes

We retrace our river and road journey back to Puerto Maldonado, our office and the airport. Depending on airline schedules, this may require dawn departures.

Upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado, transfer to the airport to board your flight to Cusco.

Private Transfer from Cusco Airport to Ollantaytambo

Upon arrival at Cusco airport you will be transferred to your hotel located in the sacred valley.

You have a free afternoon to acclimatize and adjust to the altitude.

Day 06: Whitewater rafting Adventure on Urubamba River and Biking (B, L)

Estimated rafting time: three hours

After breakfast, you will be driven to Pachar, a village located on the shores of Urubamba River and the starting point of our whitewater rafting adventure.

Upon arrival, all participants will be given a safety briefing by your river guide. The briefing covers the paddling commands, capsize drills and actions when overboard; participants will be provided with Helmets, wetsuits, splash jackets and personal flotation device.

Once everyone is ready, we start with a quick practice on the calm parts of the river, our adventure starts on easy water surrounded by beautiful mountains and archaeological remains, then we head to Ollantaytambo and its amazing Inca terraces, on the way we will enjoy class II-III rapids and finish by “El Resbaladero” (The Slide), a great class III rapid that includes waves and small whirlpools. We finish our adventure by Cachiccata community located a few minutes to Olantaytambo village.

Biking in the sacred valley (Cachiccata – Sillkinpunta)

14:00 Pm. We will start our biking adventure in the sacred valley, our bikes will be ready to start the ride just from our hotel in Ollantaytambo, we will ride to Cachiccata Bridge and ride to Sillkinpunta bridge, we will enjoy great views of the sacred valley surrounded by mountains, eucalyptus trees and passing thru small Quechua villages. The biking path level is easy and safe, depending on physical conditions participants can do a round trip bike (the way back is thru another road).

Day 7: Morning Expedition train from Ollantaytambo to Km 104 (B, L)

Estimated train journey time: one hour and forty minutes.

Start the short Inca Trail hike to Machu Picchu

Estimated hiking distance: 7 miles/11 kilometers
Estimated hiking time: seven hours

Upon arrival at Km 104, the starting point of your short Inca trail trek to Machu Picchu, we cross the foot bridge over the Vilcanota River, pass the checkpoint (you need to show your passport), and start our adventure on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

Our first stop will be by the Inca’s Ruins of Chachabamba, it is believed that this place was an important religion site and a guardhouse to control the access to Machu Picchu.

After visiting Chachabamba, we embark on a four-hour uphill hike to Wiñaywayna Ruins, the largest and most amazing Inca site of the Inca Trail, here you will have enough time to explore its terraces, houses and enjoy the magic scenery. 

After lunch, we continue our hike through the cloud-forest until reaching the stone threshold of Inti Punku, known as “The Sun Gate” due to it was the main entrance to Machu Picchu during the Inca Period. It is located at an altitude of 2,745 (9,005 feet) above the sea level and offers you a unique chance to enjoy the most beautiful picture of Machu Picchu. We arrive in the “Hidden City” of Machu Picchu late in the afternoon and board the bus to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo) where you will stay overnight. Tomorrow, you will return to Machu Picchu for your private tour of the most amazing Inca Site!

Day 8: Machu Picchu (B, L)

After a very early breakfast, you will be met by your guide and have a 25-minute bus journey to Machu Picchu where your private English-speaking guide will embark you on an adventure of a lifetime that brings you back to the 15th century.

You will enjoy a guided tour of the most amazing and mysterious of all Inca Sites, you will learn about the history of this site, who lived there, how it was discovered in modern times and why the Spaniards never found it.  
You will have some insight into the various features of the city and after that, you will have some free time to really enjoy yourself alone in this spectacularly located site, a lifetime experience that will stay with you forever!

After your Machu Picchu adventure, you will board the bus to Aguas Calientes for lunch and then board the vista dome train to Cusco.

After lunch, you will board your train to Ollantaytambo station in the sacred valley.

Day 9: Horseback riding Adventure in the sacred valley (B)

Estimated horseback riding time: three hours

After breakfast, you are picked up from your hotel and walk to the Inca Bridge to start our horseback riding adventure. This morning, you will enjoy great views of the sacred valley surrounded by mountains, eucalyptus trees and passing thru small Quechua villages. The horseback riding level is easy and safe.

After your horseback riding tour, you will be driven to your hotel in Cusco.

Private half-day Cusco City Tour and Sacsayhuaman and nearby Inca Ruins Tour

This afternoon, you are picked up from your hotel and embark on a memorable experience visiting the beautiful city of Cusco, a UNESCO World Heritage Site!

You tour starts with a smooth walk to the main attractions of this Inca city, its main square known as Plaza de Armas, then the Cusco Cathedral which construction started in 1559 and has an impressive unique collection of more than 400 paintings from Cusco school made during the 16th and 17th century. Next, you walk through the narrow Inca streets close the Plaza and appreciate the massive Inca walls which are the foundations of Cusco city.

Your tour includes a visit to the most impressive Inca temples, Koricancha, which is known as the temple of the sun. During the Inca time, the walls of this temple were lined in sheets of solid gold and its courtyard was decorated with statues and ornaments of gold! You tour includes a visit to Santo Domingo Church built by the Spanish colonists.

After visiting the city of Cusco, we will head to Sacsayhuaman, an amazing Inca fortress which main walls perfectly fitted, were built with massive stones. You will learn more about the Incas’ secrets, we continue to Qenko, site of carved living rock then to Puca Pucara, an Inca lodging Site and finally Tambo Machay, known as the Baths of the Inca. At the end, you will have an amazing view of the Inca city and surrounding areas.

Day 10: Flight from Cusco to Juliaca. Puno (B)

After breakfast, you are picked up from your hotel and transported to Cusco airport to board your morning flight to Juliaca city.

Upon arrival at Juliaca airport your guide will meet and greet you, he will be holding a sign with Rahhalah logo, and drive to your hotel on the shores of Lake Titicaca. 

Free afternoon to rest and relax.

Day 11: Boat trip adventure on Lake Titicaca (B, L)

After Breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel and transferred to Puno pier to board the motor boat and start your adventure on the highest navigable Lake in the world, the first stop will be on the floating Totora reed Islands of The Uros where you will see how these pre-Incan people live; we continue our journey onto Taquile Islands where you will learn more about Inca’s culture and traditions; their lifestyle remains the same as it has been for centuries with very little influence from modern times. Here you will find beautiful textiles and some of the best handicraft in the Inca region.

In the afternoon, we will return to Puno pier, from where you will be transferred to your hotel.

Day 12: Kayaking on Puno Lake (B)

Duration of kayaking: 3 hours.

After breakfast, you are picked up from your hotel and driven to Coya port to start you kayaking adventure on Lake Titicaca. We paddle from Coya to Estevez Island, on the way you will enjoy amazing vies of Puno city, the Reserve of Giant Totoras and wildlife of the Lake.

Late afternoon, you will be picked up from your hotel and driven to Juliaca airport to board your evening flight to Lima.
