Many people think that Mongolian winter is unbearable cold and there is nothing to do and see in Mongolia in winter from December until mid-March. However, the Mongolian winters are incredible winter and there is plenty to see and enjoy! Glittering white snow, clear fresh air, sun, and ofcourse, adventure!

Dog sledding in the wilderness of Mongolia is a truly amazing experience. You will enjoy dog sledding in beautiful Terelj National Park, a combination of steppes, mountains, valleys, rivers and astonishing rock formations.  Meet the real Mongol nomads and spend a day like a nomad  and learn about their traditional lifestyle.

DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 01: Arrival at Ulaanbaatar

A Rahhalah representative will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel.

Overnight: Hotel Ulaanbaatar

Day 02: Ulaanbaatar- Terelj National Park (B, L, D)

In the morning travel to Terelj. You will meet your guides, mushers and dogs in the beginning of the afternoon. Terelj is located in the Gorkhi-Terelj national park, at 60km from the capital. The park, located at edge of the Khan Khentii Park, created in 1994, includes a big part of the Khentii mounts. The region of Terelj is an alpine solid massif where many summits reach 2700m. The park is composed with steppes, mountains, valleys and astonishing rock formations. Introduction and instruction for equipment and activity: introduction to the dog team and to the specific equipment.

Day 03: Terelj Settlement- Uliin Bulan & first day of dog sledding (B, L, D)

Short transfer by vehicles of all dogs, sleds and people to reach the starting point of your adventure. We are followed by car on the river for 22 km to reach the small Uliin Bulan, named after the mountain that surrounds it. This first day will allow you to get used to the sledge, on an easy way. Many nomads stay in this valley for the winter, but still the area remains very wild and beautiful. We will reach for the night at Bosgo bridge located just a hundred meters away from the river, where Gers and huts are mixed. Here live a nomad family with whom we will share the warmth of the Ger.

Day 4: Uiliin Bulan - Terelj settlement (B, L, D)

Today we say good bye to our host nomadic family. And sled back to the Terelj Settlement for 22 km. We will follow the frozen river to get back to the settlement. Sometimes, the water comes up to the surface through little cracks and creates small lagoons over the deep blue ice. Dogs will be champing at the bit. They are used to work hard for this extreme winter conditions. They run on the ice without any fear, sniffing wolves’ prints, always willing to go on. In order to reach Terelj Settlement, we will follow the same way back on the river.

Day 5: Terelj National Park to Gun Galuut Nature reserve (B, L, D)

Today we visit Turtle rock and temple of meditation after breakfast. Start driving to Gun Galuut Nature reserve via Giant Chinggis statue, the biggest equestrian of its kind. Continue short drive for 1-1.5 hour. Arrive and transfer to the local nomadic family. Enjoy horse riding for 1 hour. Enjoy rest of the day with nomads taking part in their daily life.

Day 6: Gun Galuut- Ulaanbaatar (B, L, D)

Farewell to the host family and we head back to Ulaanbaatar. Arrive and transfer to the hotel. Visit Bogd Khan’s winter palace and optional shopping for souvenir and cashmere if you wish. Farewell dinner.

Day 7: Departure (B)

Meet at the hotel and transfer to the airport for departure.
